July 11 2014 - Hot Top Ten
WEIRDS - OFF THE HOOK
Leeds four-piece Weirds return with self-released free download: "a savage onslaught of sickly-sweet desert rock, grungey riffs and menacing vocals". Sounds good to us.
BASKETBALL SHORTS - CANDY BOYS
Austin punks share 146 seconds of rapid punk pop on a Fleeting Records split with Surfin' Mutants Pizza Party's self-titled track, out July 22.
CORBU - BELIEVE THE LIE
The Brooklyn indie electronic five-piece first featured by us back in January, back with some dreamy vocals and a pumped-up bassline in track from the just released 'We Are Sound' EP.
PUSHER - REVIVE
Formerly Toba Caldera, the Barnsley boys released this latest dark, gritty piece of psychsonic-tronics a few weeks ago. Hear it live when they play Sheffield's Rocking Chair tomorrow (July 12).
ALLUSONDRUGS - I'M YOUR MAN
Lead track from the West Yorkshire grunge-ers' self-titled debut EP out July 21 on Clue Records. Catch them live tonight (July 11) at Keighley Exchange Arts Centre and tomorrow at Leeds Works Skatepark.
CRYSTAL SHIPS - SHOW ME YOUR WILD
Eight and a half minutes from the psych four-piece (formerly Modern Alarms) of "feverish, sexy, passionate driving rhythms, crashing melodies dancing like drunken lovers falling to the bedroom floor, locked together in lust". Ooh, I say.
MANY THINGS - CHAINS
First track from the now extended named (formerly just 'MT') foursome's new EP 'What We Are' which is out on July 28. A more moody follow-up to last year's more pop oriented 'Alpha Romeo'.
CHEMISTS - HEIRLOOM LUNA
Solo project of Danny Bozella (of Rem’s Floating Chandelier), back with album 'Visions In Furs' released last month of chillwave electronics, guitar loops and hazy beats.
PARKWAVE - METROPOLITAN
Italian four-piece, formed last year, bring out this single on July 15. Influenced by the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys, you can also detect some dub in this big rhythm track.
APACHE SUN - THE RAIN THAT NEVER CAME
If you put aside the inclination to say this sounds at the start like a Gary Glitter comeback, then the new Glasgow psych outfit's debut single could grow on you.
