Track Of The Day :: Hedgehog - Heart On Fire
Hedgehogs are generally fairly small creatures with a lot of spikes. The Beijing Hedgehog is small in size too - just three - and also come with spikes - of the distorted guitar sound variety.
Zo (vocals/guitar), Fun (bass) and Atom (drums) are not characters from a children's series, but members of one of China's most successful bands. And although they sing mainly in Chinese, having produced six albums, their indie post-punk style is starting to take them further afield, crossing language and cultural barriers.
One of the standout tracks from their latest full-length - 'Phantom Pop Star' - is now being released as a double A-side single. 'DDDreaMMM' together with 'Heart On Fire' (from their last LP, 'Sun Fun Gun') will be out in December and looks set to establish them in UK and Europe.
Check out 'Heart On Fire' below - our favourite of the two. Fast, catchy with quirky little psych noise-blasts and the dual vocals of Zo and Atom rising over the reverb drone zones and guitar skitches that weave in and out.
Plans are for them to sing in English on their next release. Not that it maybe matters, judging by this track - which is a bloody good one.
'Heart On Fire'/'DDDreaMMM' is released on December 1 via Disorder Recordings.
