Introducing :: April Towers
Words: Pollyanna Sheehan
Formed in August 2013, April Towers are a promising electronic/pop duo consisting of Alex Noble (vocals / guitars / keyboards) and Charlie Burley (samples / guitars / keyboards). They are amongst a string of exciting new talent to be released from Nottingham, a city that has turned out a few recent up-and-coming artists such as Indiana and Sleaford Mods - both of these having released critically acclaimed material.
The pair release their debut two-track EP on October 27. Radio friendly lead single ‘Arcadia’, featuring a repetitive piano riff, balanced by a catchy upbeat pop-ish chorus, has already gained favour with the likes of Radio One's Fearne Cotton and Huw Stephens. Its partner track, ‘Running Blind’, showcases more of a gentle electronic sound produced by the duo, where the obvious influences of Pet Shop Boys, White Lies, and Aphex Twin can also be heard.
After only making their live debut in February, their penchant for incisive pop hooks and dizzying electronica has seen April Towers play both Tramlines and Dot to Dot festivals over the summer, as well as securing supporting slots with the aforementioned Indiana, and Tove Lo. Now they are about to play several shows opening for Kyla La Grange her current tour, as well as a hometown headline date at Nottingham's Bodega next month.
