Track Of The Day :: Savage Sister - Cocoon
We introduced the Chicago dreamwave trio Savage Sister here back in February, and funnily enough they crossed our minds again just a few days ago when we wondered what they were up to.
The answer is busy creating 'Speechless', a new full-length due shortly (digital via Wild Patterns and on vinyl via BLVD Records), and making a video to accompany lead track 'Cocoon'.
And what a beauty it is - both song and video. The visuals were shot by Laura Wagner, and edited by the band's Michael Tenzer, and merge dreamy psychedelic hues with fleeting movie images, fiery infernos and a whole load of enough spacey stuff to rocket you right out of your orbit.
The vocal - which doesn't come more chilled and hardly there than this - of Chloe Lundgren is really not so much about the pitch of lyrics as about her using her voice as an instrument; while Caitlin Klask keeps her head and hair down over a flowing bassline, as the heavy guitar drones wrap you in ....well, a cocoon almost.
