The Island is the recording name of musician/producer Dan Lyle. The 20-year-old New Jersey college student has uploaded six tracks to Soundcloud which form his first EP.
As Dan explains, "The songs on ily.ihu.imu are organized under the three sections "i loved you, i hated you, i miss you." I attempted to make two songs for each section. So, the first two tracks and the next two should sound nothing alike. And the last two should sound different from those. Admittedly, the middle two are the most different. They were written first, and the whole EP was about them."
Here we have included one track from each section. His inspiration from the likes of James Blake, Kanye West, and Steve Roach are evident in patches. Soulful vocals and glitchy electronic beats, that are interspersed across some of the six tracks with rap/hip hop sections and some broad electronic soundscapes. The lyrics too are at times pretty forward, and forceful.
