Introducing :: MAra
Mara Schwerdtfeger might not be a name that trips off the tongue easily, or one that might be familiar. But Mara, as the 16-year-old musician and composer from Sydney is better known as in her early recording career, has her sights set on changing that.
Producing her own music from home, Mara already has some 12 tracks uploaded on to her Soundcloud, most of which make up her ten-track 'Get Lost In The Night' album, released this week via Bandcamp.
Blending acoustic with electronica, she uses a variety of instruments from viola, guitar and glockenspiel to electronically manipulated sounds, to mix with her own delicate vocal to create a soundscape that is as interesting as it is hypnotic.
While her style has been described as 'dreamy future folk', there is a lot more going on than that may suggest, as can be ascertained in 'Follow' (above) and in the interwoven layers of 'Oblivion' (below).
Following a few busking outings, Mara is now just embarking on the live circuit in partnership with LupaJ, another prodigiously talented young Sydney musician.
