Listen To Sixteen-Year-Old Lupa's Debut Single 'Statues'
Rising fast on the heels of Lorde comes another Antipodean talent in the form of 16-year-old Australian Lupa.
Lupa, or Imogen Jones to give her her real name, first came to attention at the end of last year with her intriguing first offering, 'Eyes Unclouded', which marked the classically trained violinist and singer / songwriter from Sydney down as one to watch.
Crossing over into folk/electronic experimentation while still studying at Conservatorium High School, Imogen began incorporating her music skills with synthesised sounds, loops and drum beats that have now formed into her official debut single 'Statues', which is released tomorrow. The track employs an innocence of vocal that is engaging as it is hypnotising; rising in pitch in a style reminiscent of what perhaps a young Kate Bush might be turning out as a 16-year-old in 2014, with of course those electronic beats in a richly textured, beautifully produced (Imogen takes credit here too) track.
'Statues' is out online and through iTunes on June 23. Lupa's debut EP is set to follow in the coming months.
