Following the release of singles ‘Lashes’ and ‘Afraid of Stars’, Rosenthal - the project of Copenhagen-based musician and producer Jeppe Kiel Revsbech, who supplies vocals, guitar and keyboards here) now brings us his first EP. The selection of five alt-rock/pop tracks contain a hint of subdued darkness that is delivered through his enchanting vocals and lyrics, gentle acoustic and electric guitars, and the presence of synths. Combined, these features make for a beautiful debut EP, which upon listening evokes a hazy dream-like feeling.

Already earning comparisons to Human League, title track does not disappoint. Rosenthal’s bright vocals carry an underlying tone of a beautiful darkness, which is created here through his use of repetitive electric guitar features. ‘April Eyes’ follows a similar tone, but with a more noticeable upbeat drum presence. On both, his lyrics provide a soothing overlay that enhances the melancholy that is created.

‘An End to the Trial’ is a short acoustic interval, which provides a blissfully light acoustic moment before delving into the next two tracks. ‘Void’ is slow building and involves light rhythmic drumming, repetitive acoustic melodies and Rosenthal’s mesmerizing voice. These sounds are layered together before allowing the music to reach a gentle climax. The record closes with the aptly titled ‘A Dream’, which, with the addition of synths and haunting chants, is the perfect way to complete what is a beautifully unique EP.
