Words: Linn Branson
Although not too sure Dima Plakhotnii's vocals did much for me on first listen to this new track 'Late' from the synthpop trio Lakeway from Kiev, it is strangely engaging, and over the course of quite a few viewings now of this video below, and listening to the irresistibly catchy song itself, they are starting to grow on me!
Given English is not the Ukrainian band's (with Max Greben, drums, and Sasha Gulenko, guitar/synths) first language, it's probably all in the accent. Listen for when he sings the word 'streets'...which very much sounds like 'tweets'.
Should be Ukraine's next Eurovision entry.
Anyway, Lakeway - who formed two years ago - have put out two EPs, 'Beginning', and the recently released 'Heartbeat' - where, as they say on their website: "The melodies have become more powerful, gained a special tenderness, softness, atmosphere of desperate love and hate in one jar." [Bet they did a Google translation for that sentence.]
Now go take a listen to 'Late'. If you like it, you know what to do: tweet.
