Track Of The Day :: Mirror Signal - All Along

Words: Linn Branson

The prodigiously talented 21-year-old Steven Barker started making a name for himself in late 2013 under the name of Mirror Signal. A solo artist with just a keyboard and laptop for company - and a voice full of warm mellowness that evokes a soulful jazz/blues style. When we saw him perform at London's Barfly in February last year we commented on our review that his was a name to remember.

Now with a new track (although he actually wrote it back in 2013) out, 'All Along', produced by Anthony from Oh Wonder, and the lead single from his forthcoming second EP 'Herculean Task' - set for release on June 22 via Pegdoll Records - Mirror Signal is fast building up a portfolio of interest in his work, and a reputation as a young artist of note.

On "All Along," he creates an ambient palette of seductive sound, fusing electronica and soul with sharp percussive spaces and soft synths, in a song that lyrically delves into a love turned stale. “You said I can’t tie my shoes/maybe you can pull some strings/but I’ve become so undone/that I can barely move," is the thoughtful wording that he weaves high-reaching vocals around.
