Words: Ryan Goodwin
So, Tramlines Festival. Who's been? We have, and Sheffield has a lot of great bands and a great history when it comes to music.
Tucked away at this year's festival event is a label who have been ploughing their own furrow for many a year now: End Of The Trail Records. The label is now kind of famous for their no-contract policy. Hell, last year they picked up Sheffield band The Clear who then went on to sign to Universal. And this year their event at The Great Escape in Brighton had people queuing around the block waiting to get in. Rough Trade distribution have just offered the label a deal obviously impressed with the labels forward (or backward? you decide) thinking.
This year they host their Tramlines event at the ever popular venue The Redhouse on the Saturday. A venue known to get sweaty and this year looks like being no exception. The line up mixes the best Sheffield has to offer and a smogasboard of bands from around the UK including a few label bands.
We spoke to label owner Kelly Munro and asked him about this year's event.
"This year we expect nothing less than the same carnage we had last year. The venue is quite small and it seems we have more people attending than will get into the venue. But that's a good problem. And still we are always looking for new acts so we are hoping we see some bands we will work with in the future. We love Sheffield. I always have had a soft spot for the people and musicians here."
The gig itself is on for the whole day and night on Saturday 25th. Pop in. If you can get in!
Tramlines takes place between July 24 - 26.
