Listen :: Matt Woods will break your heart with his soulful 'Ain't No Use'
Words: Linn Branson
Future soul exponent Matt Woods has not only been wowing crowds at SXSW this week, but seems likely some of those impressed numbers may have contributed to the 80k streams of this track on Soundcloud in the last fortnight.
'Ain't No Use', the follow-up to last year's 'Blue Skies', is a slow-burning humdinger of a ballad from the singer, who, you may be surprised to learn, hails not from somewhere in America's deep soul territory, but is homegrown Brit talent by way of Cornwall and London. A subtle, sophisticated electro-synth track that opens on piano notes before Woods' heartrending vocals grab your ears, and signify you are listening to a big star in the making. "You're the only thing that keeps me going/ain't no use/ain't no use."
Matt is on the Communion New Faces tour which features four up-and-coming artists embarking on a run of shows together around the UK. This latest instalment includes Matt, The Beach, Adam French, and Rukhsana Merrise playing seven shows together throughout the last two weeks of April. See dates on poster below.
