April 15 2016 - Hot Top Ten

TRACK OF THE WEEK:
TRAITRS - WITCH TRIALS
Toronto post-punks, Eagulls-esque Sean-Patrick Nolan and Shawn Tucker, recycle an original 2015 release (produced with Josh Korody, who has worked with Dilly Dally, Moon King and Fucked Up) to herald their debut EP, 'Rites & Ritual', out June 24 via Pleasance Records. Darkly resplendent goth-punk; scorching vocals, angular reverbed guitars strike a piercing sinister edge.

BEYOND RARE - COLD
New single - out last week -from Los Angeles experimental electronica duo, Tori Michelle (vocals) and Colton Toy (production). Drum machines and synths work in with Tori's voice "layered 15+ times to create a choir like effect that you will hear throughout the song".

THE NIGHT CAFÈ - TIME
The four Liverpool teens are back with a new hook-laden bubbled of a single that fills three minutes with poppy effervescence, ear-catching vocals and sparkling, melodic guitar lines.

SPICE BOYS - IT'S COMING
Swedish punk boys liven up spiceworld with their debut track of caustic spiciness. The Umeå quartet drop first EP, 'Spice City', on April 22 via PNKSLM Recordings.

LIVE//LEARN - CRAWL
The Beds/Herts-based four-piece follow last year's debut EP with a further cut of their dark indie-pop sound; added weight comes  with Joe Savage's vocal technique and a sonic palette of well-crafted arrangements.

RADIDAS - CALIFORNIA
If you were wondering if anyone is still doing those long proggy, synthy, Floydy, 70s-style tunes, well here's a near 11 minute piece of just that. Light up the wacky baccy and drift along to the Kent duo's first taste from their EP 'Dream Button'.

THE VERIGOLDS - FANFARE
From the new album, 'For Margaret', the San Diego indie-rockers channel the anthemic haunting vocals of Jenna Cotton with intricate guitars, synths, pedals in a crackling, near five minutes of psych rock ambience.

BASEMENT REVOLVER - JOHNNY
The debut single from the Canadian quartet from Hamilton, Ontario led by the smooth vocals of Chrissy Hurn. Shimmering guitars and a lush melody envelop as the lyrics tackle the topic of a one-sided relationship.

MARSICANS - SWIMMING
Released April 22 via Love vs Fear, the Leeds four perfect their aquatic leanings as they float out some more of their upbeat dirty pop on this new single.

ICE CREAM - RECEIVER
Toronto duo produce more “molecular pop” on their latest single from their forthcoming debut album, 'Love, Ice Cream', released June 3 via Bad Actors, Inc. (the label run by Fucked Up’s Ben Cook, who has also co-produced the album with Tony Price). Carlyn Bezic and Amanda Crist deliver a smooth sauce alongside warped electronic pulses. Catch live on April 23 at Smiling Buddha, Toronto.
