** PREMIERE ** Ivory Wave - Club

Words: Linn Branson

There's a lot of Brummie vocal inflection in Ivory Wave frontman George Johnson's vocals here on their debut single 'Club'. Not that we're complaining, just that you couldn't mistake this new five-piece from coming from anywhere else than the West Midlands areas of Birmingham and Dudley.

The young band - ranging in age from late teens to early twenties - formed in the last half of 2015, and deliver sounds influenced partly by the likes the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, fused with their own iconic indie acid house/dance style beats, synth sounds and authentic lyrics.

'Club', which Little Indie premieres here, was a track that we immediately fell in love with when first heard last weekend. With its infectious beat and "Oh-la-la" line that you'll go around singing to yourself after hearing, it's perfect for both the dancefloor and blasting out in the car, although lyrically the song is about "people who ruin things for other people. Whether it's people who ruin nights out for you, or politicians that ruin countries for people. The underlying theme in George's lyrics for this song is that people shouldn't have the power to take things away from others."

'Club' started out as a jam between Luke (bass) and Seb (drums), the band tell Little Indie. "We didn't really think much about it. It was one of those songs that just wrote itself. Then when we started playing it live, everyone was telling us that it was the anthem of our set!"

'Club' is out today, April 22.
