Continuing our Great Escape festival artist previews, today we take time out with Strong Asian Mothers.
London’s Strong Asian Mothers blend of styles - hip-hop, trap, R&B with electro-pop - and emphatic live show has been making waves on London’s underground gig scene for awhile. Best friends since their early years, Amer Chadha Patel, Kalim Patel and Josh Stadlen have played in bands together throughout their childhoods, but it was under Strong Asian Mothers that they really found their strength. Their 'Lynx Africa' EP is out on May 20, preceded by single 'Out Of Love'.
1. First time at TGE?
No, we've been here before as Khooshimusic, love it here! It's also a homecoming of sorts, cos we used to come here as kids and one of us went to Uni here - so we got deep love for Brighton.
2. Are you a seasoned Escaper as a punter, or a first-time newbie?'
We're caught in an agonising middle ground between first-time newbies and seasoned Escapers. WHO AM WE!?!?!?!
We're actually using this festival to have a little three-day holiday in Brighton which we're very much looking forward to. The itinerary so far looks like picnics and brisk strolls during the day, and skinny dipping and group cuddles by night.
4. The highlight of your set will be...?
The highlight of our set might be a ferocious medley of some of the most sizzling hip hop and grime tunes that we may or may not be preparing.
5. Where will we be likely to find you after your set: at the bar, on the beach, stuffing fish 'n' chips, or other?
Other - stuffing our faces with the deliciously fatty and sugary doughnuts on the pier, then throwing them back up on the helter skelter. #RockNRollRedefined #RockNRoll2.0
6. Aside from building sandcastles on the beach with your little bucket and spade, what else will you be up to in Brighton?
First of all, contrary to the consensus, our buckets and spades are not that little. They're actually a bit over average size, so we'd like to clear that up once and for all. Secondly, Brighton beach is made of stones so they'll be no sandcastles. We might engage in a spot of light skimming if we can find the right shape stones, but it'll go no further than that.
7. Who else playing at TGE are you hoping to see yourself, or would recommend others should put on their must see list?
See MØ cos she's a boom performer. See Stormzy cos he's a joker. Shouts out to Stormzy. See Chastity Belt cos we just looked on the the website to see who else was playing and they've got a good name and a funny profile pic.

9. Any tips for festival goers?
Bring a thermal vest cos if April is anything to go by this year, it's gon be chilly AF.
You must see us at the Great Escape cos if you don't our mums will track you down and destroy your life.
