Track Of The Day :: The Ramona Flowers - Dirty World
Words: Sam Geary
It seems like ages since we last heard from Bristol-based outfit The Ramona Flowers. But as they say, the best is worth waiting for and this new single from the five-piece is certainly a good 'un.
Co-produced with Friendly Fires and Passion Pit collaborator Chris Zane, the single was recorded late 2015 at The Distillery Studios in Bath, and released earlier this week.
A taster for their forthcoming second album due out on Distiller Records later this year, ‘Dirty World’ is a perfect blend of their trademark big chorus lines, glitchy electro-pop hypnotic tones, and anthemic guitar riffs.
The track, say the band, evolved out of a Giorgio Moroder-style synth sound that drummer Ed Gallimore was experimenting with, added to with a piano hook by guitarist Sam James - "that sounded like something out of Top Gun" - and sealed with vocalist Steve Bird's lyrics about his frustration at being forced to leave London due to rising rent. “It’s unfair that you have to move out of the city you love not on your terms."
