New Sounds #60 June 1 2016

LECTURES - EVERY COLOUR
Darkly hypnotic new track from the Kent-based four-piece we first featured here back in 2014. This new single, produced by Brett Cox, is digitally released on June 10. Star rating: 4/5

TOO COOL KID - DRAINED
Cambridge trio fronted by Jay Plent combine big choruses with intricate instrumentation. At a mere 1:50 long this new deep 'n' beaty track packs a lot into its brevity. Star rating: 3.5/5

YUNG - COMMERCIAL
The Danish indie rockers return with latest single that, while slightly longer at 2:30 than the track above, gets to the point in typical Yung style. From their forthcoming 'A Youthful Dream' album, out on June 10 on Fat Possum (US) /Tough Love (UK/EU). Star rating: 3/5

CAR SEAT HEADREST - VINCENT
From the short to the elongated near eight minutes of this track from 23-year-old, Seattle-based Will Toledo's just released 'Teens Of Denial' full band album. Humorous lyrics over alt-psych melodies. In UK for 4 dates from June 20 in Brighton, London, Manchester, Glasgow. Star rating: 3.5/5

THE BELAFONTES - SKELETON
Sunny 60s garage/surf-pop B-side to the Melbourne quintet's debut single 'Saturday', which was released last week. Jessica Belafonte floats light vocals over catchy beat base. Star rating: 3/5
