New Sounds #61 June 4 2016
WY - IN BLOOM
Debut single - released last week via Swedish label Hybris - from 19-year-old Stockholm-based duo of Ebba Agren and Michael Gustafsson. Melancholic refrain aided by reverb, lilting synths, and a stirring melody. Catch live at Stockholm's Bonden Bar on June 10. Star rating: 4.5/5
AVES - SOMEONE
More chilled, subtle electronica from the Sydney based indie-pop producer who releases his self-titled debut EP on July 1. This second track quickly follows 'Don't Say' which was glowingly received by critics. Star rating: 3.5/5
TETISH - GLOW
Classically trained Israeli duo Etan Salomon (vocals/keys) and Itai Shirtit (keys/vocals) drop their self-titled debut album on July 22 via Solarie Records, and precede it with this bouncy indie-pop track they have dropped in advance. Star rating: 3.5/5
WHITE - FIGHT THE FEELING
Tightly energetic piece disco-synth punk from the Glaswegian outfit that trades a blistering chorus and Leo Condie's inimitable vocal styling. Catch live at London's Lexington on June 17 for the first of their four monthly residency nights. Star rating: 4/5
SELF TALK - CLEAN WASHING
Melbourne quintet (formed out of kocal acts Ceres and Skyways Are Highways) follow April's single 'Hypocrite' with this new energetic buzz track from their upcoming debut EP, 'Seeing What I Want To See', released on June 18. Catchy punk-pop blending fuzzy hooks with garage undertones. Star rating: 4/5
