Introducing / Track Of The Day :: Bottle Note - Homecoming
Words: Linn Branson
The first surprise about the new track 'Homecoming' - and band - is that the wailing guitar and drums opening is very enticing, and the second is that they are not Americans from somewhere around the Brooklyn area, but homegrown Scots from Edinburgh.
The four-piece Bottle Note, then, and their 'Homecoming' - released on February 5 - gets a firm nod of approval from this quarter. Their perky alt-rock-pop indie guitar sound and vocals are both catchy and promising, and get better on each listen.
Judging by their lengthy list of Soundcloud tracks over the last year, they are not so new as might be thought. In fact, they put out a two-track work 'Callant' last summer, after a five-song debut EP, 'First Words', in January 2016. Maybe it was the lightness of summer that influenced their sound, but something also seems to have changed in the months between 'Great Company', above, and 'Callant', below - and for the better.
Bottle Note play Sneaky Pete's in Edinburgh on March 4.
Bottle Note are: Ross Gordon - vocals, rhythm guitar, Joe Mcdonald - lead guitar, Andrew Smith - bass, Jake Charleston - drums.
