Watch :: New Carnival 'Run For Cover' on their drummer-directed video

Words: Ellie Ward

First featured here back in 2015 with the title track to their debut EP 'Where Do You Wanna Go', Bristol four-piece New Carnival now release the video for newest single ‘Run For Cover’.

The track is grittier than their previous offerings with a funky blues edge, big bassline and with a dash of snarl.

The video was directed by the band's drummer Bertie Crawley, who explored anger and aggression with a meditative visual centred on a capoeirista's countdown to battle. 'Capoeira' being a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music.

"This video, essentially a cry about the state of unchangeable circumstances, is a study of aggression. I selected capoeiristas because they simulate violence without ever carrying out that implicit threat. They are beautiful to watch. This video is about co-operation as much as it is about aggression. Aggression does not need to be about anger, it can be cathartic - the release of personal, pent-up rage in a way that does not incite hate."
