Track Of The Day :: Yr Eira - Dros y Bont

Words: Linn Branson

It's not often you get a band whose name pronunciation eludes you, as does the title of their song - and what they're singing about!

Unless you happen to be Welsh, of course, with an ear for the native tongue, it's unlikely most will have much of a clue either.

Yr Eira - who we think may roughly translate as Snow - are a North Wales alt indie pop quartet from Gwynedd who sing in their native Welsh. 'Dros y Bont' ('Over The Bridge') is the first single from their upcoming debut album which is due in July through Welsh independent label, Recordiau IKAChing Records.

With fluid guitars and rippling melodies there's a touch of Two Door Cinema Club to Yr Eira, and don't be lulled into a false impression of 'Welsh folky' on the opening seconds of 'Dros y Bont' as it's not long before it picks up apace and you'll be humming along.

Yr Eira are: Lewys Wyn Jones (vocals, guitar), Ifan Sion Davies (guitar), Trystan Huw Thomas (bass), Guto Gwyn Howells (drums).
