** VIDEO PREMIERE ** Dead Natives - Dreaming Like You Do

Words: Richard Cobb

Featuring a cameo from what must be Brighton's, if not Britain’s, strongest basketball net, Little Indie brings you the premiere of the new video by Dead Natives for their latest single ‘Dreaming Like You Do’, released last Friday (November 24) through AWAL.

The main theme of the video - which was filmed on a late night jaunt to Brighton by friends of the London four-piece, Jonathan Cowan and Josh Young, who make up Cat & Dog media - is your average few pints turned into a full-blown ASBO hazard perception video.

Speaking of the video, bassist Adam Payne explains that they “wanted the video to have personality. The last for ‘I Got Menace’ was frantic and quite psychedelic; this one shows another side to us. It’s also got a nostalgic feel when put with the music which is great.”

Adam says the band settled on filming the video in Brighton as it “was a great location with the quirkiness of it and there’s always something going down.” (Apart from the basketball net that is.)

The song itself is “about expectations of you - or the pressure - that a lot of young people feel when chasing their dream and maybe becoming afraid of it and falling into set ways. But then thinking "Fuck it, go for it, let’s have it,” singer Liam Dutch tells us.

When Little Indie reviewed the band’s debut EP ‘Something Strange’ at the beginning of the year, it was clear there was a swagger that the band were able to back up with their songs, and whilst the video for ‘Dreaming Like You Do’ depicts the band getting absolutely wankered, there’s clearly a great deal of work that goes into their craft and song writing.

It’s a great way to end what has been a very productive and successful year for the band. Keep an eye out for them tearing up a venue - or a beach -near you in 2018.

Dead Natives play The Hope & Ruin, Brighton on December 2 with Of Empires and SONS.

Dead Natives are: Liam Dutch (vocals, guitar), Robbie Ferguson (guitar), Adam Payne (bass), Colin Mars (drums).
