Sing & Tell :: BERRIES
BERRIES are a London-based alt/rock trio known for their energetic shows and original take on riff-driven rock, with upbeat melodies and cool guitar riffs, powerful bass lines and distinct drum beats. 'Faults' Is the latest release from their second EP.
Who are you?
I am Holly Carter and we are BERRIES! I am the lead singer and guitarist, with Lauren Cooper who is the bass player, and Lucie Hartmann plays the drums!
Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today?
Me and Lauren grew up together in Norfolk and bonded over a love of Hendrix and rock music and then both ended up in London where we met Lucie who is originally from France. We have been gigging all over the UK and releasing tracks ever since
Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.
Our influences are pretty broad! Hendrix, Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Biffy Clyro, The Subways, PVRIS - we love bands who are really instrumentally driven and have a great stage presence when they play live.
Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.
Usually we get an idea and develop the track around that, everyone adds in their own style and ideas. It's a great way to write because it means everyone is involved and can put their own stamp on the track. The end of our track Discreetly is a good example - we had finished writing the song but Lauren decided there should be a heavy bit at the end and we tried it and all loved it and now we can't imagine the song without it - we do love a good breakdown!
Tell us a little about your new single.
'Faults' is slightly slower and more reflective than our other tracks, our other release have all been faster and heavier so we decided to put out a track that shows a slightly different side to us. We still have breakdowns and parts which are really instrumentally driven but there are more harmonies than we usually have and a slightly different vibe to our other releases. So far the feedback has been great.
Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?
Absolutely!
March 2 Liverpool, Sound
March 3 Manchester, Aatma
March 16 London, Camden Assembly
March 23 Brighton, Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar
April 11 London, The Monarch

How's the rest of the year looking, plans-wise?
