With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
STRANGELY ENOUGH - GRACEVILLE
Formed last year between Brisbane's multi-instrumentalist Greg Olley, Adam Brill of Faux Bandit, Zac Sakrewski of Valtozash and Ben Shannon of Kodiak Empire, this second single, released earlier this month, brings a genre-blend of synths, strings, shimmering keys, and yearning vocals across four minutes of dreamy psychgaze.
MADLY - HONEY
Auckland, NZ electronic duo, Dahnu Graham and Suren Unka, have shared their second infectious electronic track. Comprised of lush vocals from Graham, and layers of synth pulses and bass drum.
JAMES THORRINGTON - MYSTERY CALLER
Debut solo single from Auckland, NZ singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, formerly of post-punk band Yukon Era. Co-written with local artist Nick Lehtola, not only does James sing here, but takes on keys, synth, percussion and drums too (the bass left to Lehtola). Your jaw drops a bit when you realise he is only 16-years-old!
BAD FRIEND - MOLLIE
Wellington, NZ dream-pop four-piece share a new track from their debut 'Best Of' EP, released on June 22. A touch of fuzz and Emma Hall-Phillips make for a 'dreamo pop' banger.
DARLING JAMES - SILVER BULLET
First official single from the Melbourne-based songwriter-producer James O'Brien's second EP 'Mood Eyes'.
Following a similar vein to 'Didn't Get It Right', this electro-pop piece works a bouncy beat with striking synth, interwoven with sparkling guitar. "I wrote 'Silver Bullet' equally as a break up song with my own bad habits and to address a friend who seems stuck in the same kind of endless patterns of denial and blame I was," says O'Brien.
HOPE TO PEACE - WHERE TO NOW
This may only be a demo, but we're hooked. If only Brisbane-based emo indie Joey could supply some more info, we'd be even more so. This is the second of two (with 'Come Home') recently uploaded tracks by the singer-pianist, and we look forward to more.
