Words: Ellie Ward
Cardiff alt-singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jack Ellis is back with a commanding new single, 'Small Change'.
Produced by Jon Constantine at Leeders Vale Studios, Ebbw Vale, and taken from the forthcoming EP, 'Out Of Luck', to be released on September 7 via District South Records, lead single 'Small Change' may be small in name, but is pretty big otherwise.
The strong blues-infused number - which Little Indie brings you the debut hearing of - combines Ellis’ powerfully gritty, yet soulful, vocals with reverb heavy guitars and harmonies to support heartfelt lyrics.
"‘Small Change’ tells us that love and life can be as painful as it can be beautiful, where affection can be substituted by control and becomes a dark dangerous game," elucidates Jack, who was voted Best Breakthrough Act in 2015, and Best Solo Artist in 2017 at The Cardiff Music Awards. "When someone you love deeply treats you as if you are worthless, it’s nearly impossible not to feel like you truly are worthless - just like small change!"
