City Calm Down are 'Stuck (On The Eastern)' - but they'll be back in UK in September
Words: Ellie Ward
Australian quartet City Calm Down share their new single 'Stuck (On The Eastern)', along with announcing a return to the UK this autumn.
'Stuck (On tThe Eastern)' follows comeback single 'Television', and once again sees the band working with producer Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, The Drones, Julia Jacklin).
The track takes aim at rampant consumerism, our unattainable modern life dreams and the pressure of the rat race - with Melbourne’s congested Eastern Freeway being a metaphor for these broader concerns and issues.
“After moving away from the city, I found myself stuck in peak hour traffic on the Eastern Freeway and was shocked that this scenario was a daily ritual," says frontman Jack Bourke. “Some might say it’s a practical issue that requires a practical solution (i.e. building more roads etc), but in my view it’s more fundamental than that – it’s a symptom of our ‘aspirational culture’, where the primary aspiration is to consume. This song won’t change that, but it might make you laugh about it.”
The band are set to release their third album, 'Television', on August 23 via I Oh You. In celebration of the album's release, they will be heading over to the UK for a headline tour, including a show at London's Electrowerkz on September 30.
