Southampton's The Vitrines Sing & Tell on where they stand

Credit: Rhona Murphy

Little Indie first came across alt-grunge rock two-piece The Vitrines as a pair of then 16-year-olds back in early 2017. They had already released an EP the year before, and had just put out another, 'The Same Difference'. Coming up to the present, the duo dropped their latest single 'Where I Stand' at the end of June.

Who are you?

We're The Vitrines: Alex Donovan on vocals and guitar, and Morgan Haynes on drums.

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.

We've been together as a band for just over 3 years new and in that time we've been playing up and down the country and gigging as much as we can - including some headline shows in our hometown of Southampton. We recently just played the Isle of Wight Festival with This Feeling, who have really given us a great platform to showcase ourselves.

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

We play a mixture of indie and alternative rock, bringing in influences from bands like Slaves and Royal Blood, but anything we feel suits a song we will just put in, regardless of where it's come from.

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

Most, if not all, of our songs are written whilst jamming in our rehearsal space: we just mess about until something comes to us and we develop it. Then, if it's not any good, we start from scratch again!

Tell us a little about your new single.

'Where I Stand' was released last month and we've been playing it live for quite a while now and felt we were ready to hit the studio and give it a proper recording.

Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?

We're playing at The Joiners in Southampton on September 6th, and we may be releasing some new dates we will have to see...

How's the year looking, plans-wise?

We've got a couple more tracks ready to be released, so we will definitely be looking to get them released efore the end of the year and gigging as much as we can.

Where can we hear more of your music?

Spotify, Soundcloud, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon.

What social media platforms can we find you on?
