Dundee band The Roques capture heat and intensity on 'Valdivian'

Words: Linn Branson

Scotland has undoubtedly fielded a strong 2019, turning out a welter of high-end new talent. And as we draw towards the close of the year, The Roques see us out with a new single and a sign of being a band to offer more in 2020.

There's nearly five and a half minutes of the Dundee-based quintet's dark and psych-tinged 'Valdivian', the fourth offering after 2018's debut 'What Do You See?, and this year's 'Fear Me' and 'Addicted'.

Hypnotic vocals and atmospherically taught guitars drive the song, which the band say, was inspired by the Valdivian rainforest in South America.

"Heat, humidity and thunderstorms are all facets of the rainforest that we have taken into account to inspire our own musical work with 'Valdivian'."

Catch them live next on January 18 2020, for what looks set to be the first big talent gig of the new year with Domiciles and VLURE at Beat Generator Live! in Dundee.
