With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.



SARAH MARY CHADWICK - LET'S FIGHT

Third single from forthcoming album 'Please Daddy', out January 24 via Rice Is Nice Records/Sinderlyn Records, from the Melbourne-based New Zealander. A rolling, melodic instrumental pace accompanies country style vocals and wry lyrics: "At fifteen couldn’t shake the feeling / Life would never let my tears dry / And it’s never let my tears dry / The only time that I was right."

ABBEY LANE - PRETTY FACE


The 20-year-old, electro-pop singer-songwriter from Sydney,  lends a soulful, emotive mix on this sub-four minute track of subtle complexity.

HAZLETT - MONSTERS


The Brisbane singer-songwriter excels in open-hearted lyrics and poignant reflection. Electric guitar augments his caressing vocals in this follow up to last summer's 'Suncats'.

The Phillip Island (south-east of Melbourne) alt-folk-rock artist, delivers his polished sound with unassuming vocals, sultry guitar, and multi-instrumental looping.

NYNE - SHOOTING STAR

Melbourne-based producer and vocalist Nyne became known for collaborating with Drake’s hit-making OVO collective, with OVO’s Sevn Thomas producing her 'Can’t Sleep Alone', followed by the 1 million-plus streamed 'Bad Trip'. Her voice on this electronic R&B influenced latest drop is exquisite, and the mood infectious.

HAYLEY MARY - LIKE A WOMAN SHOULD


From her debut EP, 'The Piss, The Perfume', out January 17 via I OH YOU, The Jezabels' frontwoman, Sydney-based Hayley Frances McGlone does her own thing on this solo project cut. "I wrote this one evening while living in Edinburgh while sipping a red wine in the middle of winter," she says. "I’d been on my own for a while as my partner was away and the chorus just came to me. I think of it a little bit as a reflection on the zone where insecurity clashes with romance; or harsh realities meet idealism. Perhaps it’s an expression of my hope that the latter will win in the end.”
