Norfolk indie rockers The Extons Sing & Tell on new single 'No Hope'

Little Indie introduced Norfolk rockers The Extons in 2016 with their debut single 'I Won’t Leave Lonely'. Now the four-piece return today (February 22) with the release of new single 'No Hope.

Who are you?

I’m Adam Garwood, I play lead guitar with The Extons. The rest of the band are Will Barnes on lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Peter Catlin on drums, and Ciaran Liam on bass.

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.

We formed in a little town called Kings Lynn in June 2015. Shortly after we released two demos that were picked up by Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1. Since then we’ve been real busy consistently gigging up and down the UK and releasing tunes!

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

I’d like to think our style within our current set is very diverse but I guess as a whole you could class us as an “indie rock” band. Our influences vary between each member which is what I personally think keeps our sound exciting and fresh. I’d say as a whole though (as much as I’d like to give you some exotic unknown band from the 60s to make us sound cool) The Strokes, The Killers and Television play a big part in our influences.

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

Will writes the main bones of each track and has a good idea in how he wants it to sound. He’ll then bring it to the table where we’ll all jam and add our own individual influences to it until we’re all dead happy with how it sounds.

Tell us a little about your new single.

I had the song idea driving home one evening. So I recorded the basis into voice memos and kept returning to it. The lyrics share a mixture of dead dating event and life experiences with a flare of quirkiness added for good taste.

Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?

We’ve got a date in London tonight - February 22nd - at the Zigfrid von Underbelly in Hoxton. Then we play Cambridge Junction on 15th March.

How's the the year looking, plans-wise?

We’re currently in the process of writing a lot more new material! As well as booking a string of dates for the summer!
