There are two very good things that come with Kiwi sludge-pop four-piece from Dunedin, Soaked Oats: first, 'Shuggah Doom', the lead cut off their forthcoming EP is very tasty; and second, they head to the UK in May. Both these things make us at Little Indie very happy indeed!
The single - produced alongside Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Jen Cloher, Miss June) at The Lab in central Auckland - comes with a music video that sneakily combines both literal and deeper meanings to the easy-going rhythms and twinkling guitars of the track.
"The song was written as if writing a script, the video and song play with each other and is intended to make us look at how we narrativise our own lives and desire to have lives worth telling a story about," rcplains lyricist and lead vocalist Oscar Mein. "But how that’s kind of meaningless because it’s about the living and everyone trying their best to do that."
Check out their Down Under dates below, before they head Up Top to play The Great Escape festival in Brighton in May.
