Ali Barter reflects back on teen life in 'Ur A Piece Of Shit'
Words: Ellie Ward
Melbourne's sassy pop-punk artist Ali Barter doesn't mince words on new track 'Ur A Piece Of Shit': "We went from gate way drugs / To class A drugs / Pocket money to credit cards."
Her first new material since 2017's 'A Suitable Girl' debut album, she describes it as "an ode to my best friends. It's about the things we went through as teenagers and how they've affected us in adult life, and how those experiences have bound us together."
The video, directed by Anna Phillips, sees Ali taking on different high school stereotypes. “In this music video, I wanted to show all the sides of myself: the insecure part; the self-conscious part; the rebellious side; and the vain side,” she says. “I thought it would be interesting to bring all these sides to my personality out in the open…”
Her second album - produced by husband, Oscar Dawson of Holy Holy - is due towards the end of this year.
