Introducing / Track Of The Day :: Darlington newcomers Neon Waves make debut with 'Addicted'

Words: Linn Branson

After forming in Darlington in 2016 (as "something to do"), alt-indie four-piece Neon Waves moved out from jamming in their bedrooms to play their first proper gig only this year. And along with it comes their official debut single.

"'Addicted' is a song about being attached to a two-sided individual who is reluctant to express themselves around other people or in certain situations," the band explain, picked up in the lyric, "I’m addicted to your side / the one that you hide away". "The song is written in a first person perspective, and in a way conveys the frustration of the writer against the individual and the confusion as to why they are so two-sided."

Kicking off on a wave of propulsive drums and reverbed guitars, Theo Colley's dominant raw vocals take a rock edge over a slightly more psychedelic octave-driven guitar solo which provides a real boost to its feel.

Neon Waves play Darlington's Music Box Festival on June 9. Check their Facebook for more dates to be announced.

Neon Waves are: Theo Colley (vocals),
Rhys Piercy (lead guitar), Connor Dent (bass), Tom Bushby (drums)
