Track Of The Day :: Sour - Separate Ways
Words: Linn Branson
In terms of years, Connar Ridd may not have advanced too far into his twenties, but musically he is a whole new creative force from the one Little Indie introduced to the world in 2016 as the 18 year old under the moniker of FREAK.
His new Sour project launched last September with 'Oh No', saw him veer away from his old fuzzy, indie punk material - and into a pop-house style.
Today (April 19) Sour (Ridd, Jonn Downham and Sam Mumford) drop a new track, 'Separate Ways’, via Are You Ready Records, along with an accompanying video. The dancefloor-ready synth-pop tune brings in influence from Latin beats, partnered with trumpets, bass and a fast-paced, rhythmic approach.
“First of all, it’s not a break up song. It channels that feeling of wanting
something you should have, but convincing yourself you can’t," states Ridd. "It’s a song about love, sexuality, and exploration but also making a statement for independence and walking away from a toxic situation. We reference flames a lot in the song. Fires are powerful and destructive but also kind of beautiful, in the way they glow and dance endlessly. That’s the contrast we wanted to get across in this song.”
