** ALBUM PREMIERE ** Little Triggers - Loaded Gun

Words: Linn Branson

Just over two years ago, Little Indie spoke to Little Triggers frontman Tom Hamilton, just as he and the band were heading out to China for a few shows.

Since that time, the Liverpool rock n’ rollers have supported Iggy Pop, dropped single 'So Fine' this past February, and been busy working on their debut 10-track album, 'Loaded Gun'. Produced by Bring Me The Horizon engineer Al Groves at Motor Museum Studios in Liverpool, the record arrives tomorrow (May 24) - but we bring you a sneaky early taste of here in our exclusive premiere.

As Little Triggers have become known for, the album lives up to their reputation that combines raw rock n’ roll, diamond cut with indie verve, huge guitar riffs, howling vocals and arena-sized melodies.

"The album is dedicated to rock n’ roll geezer Dean Kennedy who passed away recently," Tom tells us. "He ran away from school to roadie for Dr Feelgood and ended up as tour manager for acts such as Robbie Williams and The Divine Comedy, while also playing guitar in punk and ska bands. He was a mentor to me and a huge supporter of the band."

We've had a few listens to the album now, and our favourite four are: 'Giving Me Up (mosh-pit headbanger with some massive guitar licks), 'Fosnavag' (blues-fused rocker), 'Loaded Gun' (love the retro-sound to this, and the more tempered vocal delivery), and 'Run Away Baby' (gorgeous melodies that really flow).

Find out more as Tom gives Little Indie his track-by-track walkthrough on the album.

Giving Me Up

We’ve all been dumped by a partner at some time, and this song expressed that cry of anguish when a relationship breaks down.

I’m Alright

A pocket battleship of a tune at only 1m 53s - “It’s Friday night and I’m stepping out”. This is our take on Elton John’s 'Saturday Nights’ Alright For Fighting'.

Fosnavag

A semi-autobiographical number about a trip to a Norwegian town.

So Fine

Steve Mason (ex Beta Band) pogoed his way through this song at a gig in his Brighton hometown. This is a number about being love-struck for the perfect partner…’she’s so fine’!

Girl

This song is dedicated to our friend Scott from the USA who came all the way from Clarksdale to Carlisle to see the band play at a festival. It’s another number about girl trouble - the one that you fall for but doesn’t quite return the compliment.

Loaded Gun

A ‘smoky tune’ according to Polly Glass, Classic Rock Mag’s features editor. It’s been described as Zeppelinesque and Zombies-like. We’ll take that! It tells the story of an encounter with a woman you want to know but probably shouldn’t…

Silly Cigarettes

The one out-and-out ballad on the album. It reflects on the despair of finding out that you are being two-timed and everyone knows it. A real fan favourite at gigs.

It Ain’t Over

Just when you think that you’ve ended a difficult relationship, there’s a knock on the door! Another tale of love gone bad.

Run Away Baby

This could be The Clash ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go’, but for the millennial generation.

I’m Not The Same

A classic teenage rage against the conveyor belt of school, college, then nine to five job. Surely there is something different over the hill?

Little Triggers are: Tom Hamilton -vocals, guitar, harmonica; Lowell Carragher - vocals, guitar; Chris Carragher - bass, vocals; Jay Radcliffe - drums, vocals

Catch the band live tomorrow ( Friday May 24) for an album launch show in Brighton at Vinyl Revolution. Check their Facebook for UK autumn tour dates to be announced soon.
