Track Of The Day :: Echo Machine - Automatic Love
Words: Linn Branson
The first thing that occurred to me on hearing 'Automatic Love', the new single from Dundee's new-wave poppers Echo Machine, was how it reminded me of fellow Scots' Walt Disco (who they will be supporting in October); they plus a frisson of Glasgow's (now demised) WHITE. No bad thing on either count.
This was actually my first encounter with the, until recently, three-piece, now a foursome, having missed their first two single releases last year, 'St Elmo' and 'Vibrations', and even 'Chameleon' from earlier this, managed to by-pass me. But better late than never, and 'Automatic Love' is a very welcome introduction to this band.
The big, bruising, belter of a song- which drops this Friday (July 5) - has both a retro 80s feel to it in its love of a good synth line and dancefloor disco groove, but also manages to sound contemporary at the same time.
“'Automatic Love' is a song about the modern curses of distraction and instant satisfaction,” says vocalist Gary Moore. “We don't really know what we want, but we want it right now, and it has to be perfect. We spend our time comparing ourselves to avatars of our own creation, getting sad that we never match up to this ideal version of ourselves, or to the ideal versions other people project of themselves. We are all fighting good causes, but never find the time to really commit."
Commit to three minutes listening to 'Automatic Love', and watching its video partner, below. You'll love it.
