Emerging Liverpool band The Letrasets Sing & Tell on second single 'Dunes', Frank Herbert, gigs + more

Liverpool's latest indie jangle-pop band The Letrasets have just released their second single, 'Dunes', this week, the infectious follow-up to their February debut, 'Castles'.

Who are you?

I'm Iggy Fletcher, guitarist for The Letrasets. Other members are: Kel Rakkar (guitar), Tom Gamble (vocals, bass) and Elliot Halfpenny (drums).

Tell us something about yourself and how you came to be where you are today.

We met and formed the band whilst studying at the University of Liverpool and are based out of Liverpool - despite all of us coming from different parts of the country: London, Leicester, Wigan and Northampton.

Give us an idea of your musical style and influences.

We like to think we cover quite a range of genres with the focus being on indie guitar music. We don't think we can pinpoint exactly why we sound the way we do, but many people have likened our music to that of The Smiths, The Cure and JAWS with the jangle-pop style.

Explain the production and writing process behind your songs.

We recorded the track in Parr Street Studios (Blossoms, Coldplay, Ian Brown) with producer, Alex Quinn, who previously worked with good friends of ours, Spinn. With the writing process, 'Dunes' was one of our first tracks, demoed about a year ago by Kel with Tom helping him to write the lyrics. We like to collaborate rather than write solely individually, so I wrote the lead guitar part with Elliot writing his own drums. We feel writing together is a better representation of us than if one person wrote the full song alone.

Tell us a little about your new single.

'Dunes' was one of the first songs we wrote as a band in the summer of last year and we've played it at pretty much every gig since. The catchy riffs and chorus just made it a live favourite, and we couldn't wait to get the recorded version out. The lyrics take influence from Frank Herbert's Dune and the adventures on Arrakis.

Can we catch up with you at any forthcoming live shows?

Yes, we have a few gigs lined up for later in the year - one of which will be our biggest to date and will be a real event - and test - for us in Liverpool. We can't reveal too much at the moment - just keep an eye on our socials!

How's the rest of the year looking, plans-wise?

We have our three hometown gigs coming up, and we're looking into the possibility of branching into Manchester in due course. There's also the possibility of our first headline date in early 2020 too. We also have plans to release a couple of singles in that same time period.

Where can we hear more of your music?

Our debut single 'Castles' - which just hit 40,000 streams - can be found alongside 'Dunes' on all major platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and SoundCloud.
