The four-strong Spyres contingent out of Glasgow are yet further proof of the strength of this new surge of bands from across the border who are blowing many of their English contemporaries out into the Channel.
This debut single, 'Otherside', from the band who only formed at the start of the year, was recorded with Scotland's ubiquitous production duo, Johnny Madden and Chris Marshall - which alone gives it a head start over many.
But there is more here than simply top-notch production values. From its kick-ass opening that belts into ferocious drums, intriguing bass lines and swathe of hard-hitting guitars that lend psych-surf rock elements, the female dual vocals add another salvo to create something intense, and intensely satisfying.
Spyres support Rascalton at King Tuts in Glasgow on September 18 - sadly, already sold out.
