Springfield Elementary explain the ‘Five Second Rule’
Words: Sam Geary
The Manchester-based psych-punks Springfield Elementary follow earlier July debut single 'Machine Fiend', with ‘Five Second Rule’.
Recorded at The Kings Arms in Salford, ‘Five Second Rule’ - released last week on DIY label Detention Records - the groove-laden live fan favourite is, says vocalist/guitarist Billy Goodwin, the band's take on the popular phrase, with the single aiming to "explore the idea of the 'five second rule' in a more tongue-in-cheek way. By replacing food with the context of time slipping away from us, we want to highlight how mistakes can't be taken back - though sometimes it might come in handy!"
The sub-five minute 'Five Second Rule' opens on a subtle refrain with Goodwin delivering a rough-edged punk vocal over the meandering guitars that dart in and out of a rock-meets-punk-meets-psychedelic approach.
