Track Of The Week :: The Dunts - Marilyn
Words: Linn Branson
"Norma Jean, darling on a silver screen".
At the same time as fellow Scots The Snuts release their ode to a Spanish bullfighter, The Dunts unfold an homage to the legendary Marilyn Monroe.
Out today (October 18) via 7 West Music, the Glasgow foursome (just announced this week for SXSW next year) spend three minutes in their own unique fashion, delving into what actually did happen on the night of the movie icon's death 57 years ago from the perspective of a distraught fan, on 'Marilyn'.
For this outing the vocal lead has been handed over to guitarist Colin McGachy, who makes his presence felt delivering a pop-esque infectious style over a raft of frenetic guitars and anxious drums on this particular song - which also pays tribute to the poem ‘The Death of Marilyn Monroe’ by Edwin Morgan, the first Glasgow Poet Laureate - with a catchy singalong chorus line: "Marilyn, you only wanted love".
Kicking off a run of Scottish and northern dates next week, expect 'Marilyn' to be shining brightly as part of their set.
