The new single from Aylesbury-based five-piece Birthday Card, ‘Shy Away’, released last Friday, is just the kind of radio and ear-friendly track that is hard to resist.
Out on the Notting Hill Arts Club's new label, Notting Hill Arts Club Recordings, the band's self-described ‘melancholy pop’ style here harnesses pumping bass and drums, augmented with groove-based synths and shimmering guitars, all wrapped up with Josh Saw's sweet falsetto vocal.
“With ‘Shy Away’, we wanted to craft a modern day pop song that channels the anxiety and tension of its lyrics," says lead guitarist Conor Richards.
You can experience that "anxiety and tension" for free this Thursday, December 19, when Birthday Card play
the NHAC Xmas Party at Notting Hill Arts Club in London.
