With the vibrant indie music scene in Australia and New Zealand constantly outshining much of the output from their British and American cousins, Little Indie picks our weekly bunch of some of the best new tracks on offer.
KLLO - STILL HERE

First heard by Little Indie back in the summer of 2017 with 'Virtue', Melbourne electro-pop duo Kllo - cousins Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam - return as a pair after Chloe's solo debut earlier this year, with a new album, 'Maybe We Could', on the cards for July, preceded by this, its lead single. 'Still Here' takes dancefloor beats and overlays them with Chloe's dulcet vocals which lends a melancholic feel.
HANNAH CAMERON - BACKSLIDING
Produced by Matt Redlich (Husky, Holy Holy), Melbourne folk-pop artist Hannah Cameron shares her first release of the year, new single ‘Backsliding’. Over four-plus minutes, she weaves a spellbinding concoction of driving baritone guitar, ethereal harmonies, cinematic strings and subdued percussion. The song, she says, is "about finding yourself in the same situation or the same relationship over and over again and realising that it’s a choice you’re making. It’s about taking responsibility and making yourself accountable for your decisions and your actions."
CLOUD TANGLE - I'M JUST LOST
Following last year's EP 'Falling Asleep', Brisbane multi-instrumentalist Amber Ramsay's lo-fi dream popgaze solo project returns with this latest entrancing release, showcasing her ethereal vocals which soar above silky guitar melodies and evocative synth and string sections. It comes alongside her debut album 'Kinds of Sadness', released last week.
GASPAR SANZ - CHERYL
Released last week, the infectious, upbeat 'Cheryl' is the first single of 2020 from Sydney indie-rockers Gaspar Sanz. "This song was inspired by a cat called Cheryl who used to live with Jimmy (singer) and Sammy (drummer). She was very old and had a litany of health issues, but was a beautiful and gentle old soul, who had clearly seen some shit. The meows that are featured in the song are from Cheryl herself. Jimmy followed her around the apartment with a microphone for about half an hour to capture them."
BAJILLIONAIRE - CANADIA
Sydney electronic-pop artist Charlie Hole - featured here a year ago with 'Sleepwalking' - now comes around again with 'Canadia', which dropped last week. Following the recent ‘I Feel So Alone In This Club RN’, he employs a future-bass beat with relatable lyrics delivered via laid-back vocals.
THE WATTLES - BITS + PIECES

Sydney duo The Wattles have just unveiled this debut single that captures the ear right from the rumbling drum first notes, joined by an exquisite vocal and deftly mixed instrumentation, meldimg alt-folk, pop and indie-rock. The song was written after singer and keys player Lucy Murray attended a party and felt invisible and alone, and the lyrics they say "speak of the universal feeling of social anxiety".
