One To Watch :: Blondfire
If you like your alt-pop sweet and sultry, then the Los Angeles based Blondfire should fit the bill nicely.
The brother-and-sister duo of Bruce and Erica Driscoll - originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan - are not exactly new to the scene, but the release at the end of last year of their 'Where The Kids Are' EP and breakthrough onto the Billboard charts, has thrust them to the forefront of electronic pop.
Formerly known as Astaire, the siblings were forced to changed their name to Blondfire in order to avoid any potential legal problems with the iconic actor's estate. Though their name had changed, the Driscolls kept the band's sound the same: electronic tinged pop that swells on the west coast lush vocals of the female half.
They released their debut EP 'Don't Whisper Lies' on their own label Wax Divine, before signing briefly to EMI in 2006. Their debut album 'My Someday' saw light of day on their own second independent set-up, Tender Tender Rush label.
The newly monikered Blondfire eventually signed with Warner Bros last year, to release 'Where The Kids Are'.
March/April sees them supporting AWOLNATION across the US.
