September 13 2013 - Hot Top Ten
LEMON GARDEN - FAR AWAY
Read our interview with vocalist Ollie here from this brand spanking new Birmingham three-piece, all just eighteen. These are a potential hot future prospect, with their psychy/shoegaze space vibes.
VILLIERS - HEAVY HEART
Strummed opening bursts into life on this track from the Lancashire three-piece's new EP, 'VLRS'. Think Editors, with a psych swerve.
DIE MASON DIE - MOTHER
The band fronted by 21-year-old Sam Mason, follows on the heels of their single release this week with 'You're Lonely', by unveiling another track. Full of feeling, and aurally compelling - held together by Mason's heaven-sent vocal.
DODGE THE FOX - PAINTED SMILES
Four-piece indie rock crew from Scunthorpe who formed late last year - after previously being known as The Castaways. Vocalist Liam Bruce has a touch of Phil Etheridge (The Twang) about him.
DARK BELLS - WANT
Oz trio, now London based, with 'dark' and haunting guitar riffs in an edgy psych style.
NATIVE BRAVES - FRESHEN UP
Another four-piece from Scunthorpe. Formed earlier this year, before which they had been known as The Rickashays.
TRAAMS - FLOWERS
Taken from the just out debut album, 'Grin', from this Chichester-based post-punk garage trio. This sounds like what a mash up between Parquet Courts and Savages would turn out like. Playing free show at Shacklewell Arms, London, on September 20 with Theo Verney (see below).
HOOPLA BLUE - SEAMS
One of our Birmingham featured bands back in March, this new track 'Seams' follows previous winner 'Holy Ghost', but continues the dreamy style and arresting vocal range and versatility of Adam Tomes.
THEO VERNEY - COUNT IT UP
Taken from the forthcoming 'Heavy Sunn' EP, Brighton's scuzzy punk produces a garage melody that while may be just 1.33 minutes in length, is infectiously more-ish and enough to whet the appetite in anticipation of the EP release next month.
SOS - I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU
We've kept an eye on this five-piece bunch from Sheffield since alerted to them on the recommendation of Chris McClure, formerly of Violet May, back in February (see interview for more). Now they're back with this moody acoustic track.
