September 27 2013 - Hot Top Ten
MT. WOLF - MIDNIGHT SHALLOWS
Out of the ghostly shadows, Mt. Wolf emerge once more; this time to twist and twirl synth patterns around spine-tingling vocals and percussion. Goosebump stuff.
THE WITCH HUNT - ARMY MAN
Lead track from the debut EP (out October 31) of the Leeds-based duo. Dark and resonant opening to a song led by Louisa Osborn's distinctive vocal.
ETCHES - LET'S MOVE IN
New Liverpool melodic, electronica five-piece whose vocalist has one of those baritones that you just get lost in. Compelling, catchy, hooky - what's not to like.
DANCING YEARS - HERE'S TO MY OLD FRIENDS
Outstandingly beautiful debut (out October 14) from Leeds six-piece. Perfectly complemented by piano and violin which adds gracefully to its chilled and quietly affecting melody.
KHUSHI - MAGPIE
Forlornly evocative and beautiful debut offering from the London songwriter, released on October 7 as 7" single by Laissez Faire Club; launched the following night at Hoxton Bar &Kitchen, London.
ARTHUR BEATRICE - GRAND UNION
London four-piece who formed in 2010, but really started to shake things up ovet the last year and with the 'Carter' EP released in July.
MOTHER - THE BLUE MOON
Five-piece from Kingston-upon-Hull. This track runs at a pace on noisy garage-punk energy. If they can build on the sound with a dynamic and visual stage presence in a live setting, Mother could be an interesting prospect for the future.
WAITING FOR GO - WAIT
Insanely catchy dance beats from Scottish five-piece from Clydebank. Already had Radio 1 airplay, so this could be the single that helps break them.
JOEL COMPASS - RUN
Debut single (out November 11), following EP 'Astronauts', for the fast-rising 20-year-old singer/songwriter from London.
THE TONGUES - REAPER
Exciting raw edge to this trio from Leicester of two 17-year-olds and a 19-year-old drummer. Like Mother above, if they can turn it up live then one to keep an eye on.
