Introducing :: La Bête Blooms

Hull five-piece La Bête Blooms are a late flowering post-punk outfit. They play London's Power Lunches next Sunday, October 13, but before that we got their vocalist Daniel to answer a few quick questions on the band.

First of all, are you all from Hull?

Beckie's originally from Essex, but we were al living in Hull when we formed in 2010. We started as a three piece and worked our way around venues in Hull, over the past year and a half we've added an extra guitar and keys.

Was this the first band for all of you?

Our drummer James is in a Mathcore band called The Colour Line, he's been playing in bands for years! As for the rest of us it was our first experience of being in a band and although we've all had our own thing going on at one stage, La Bete Blooms still remains our main thing.

How would you describe the Bête Blooms music style?It's always a tough question to answer as nobody really wants to be boxed into saying they're a particular style. We've been likened to bands like Slowdive as well as The Pixies - which is obviously a huge compliment.

Who does the writing and what are your inspirations?I write the songs and demo them before showing them to the band. Then we will play around with it until we have a song we feel we're all happy with! We don't particularly listen to the same stuff so it's hard to say a particular band we're all inspired by. The biggest influences for us are usually watching other bands we play with, especially in Hull were there's such variety.

You're playing in London this coming weekend, anywhere else we can catch you?We're slowing down with gigs coming up to Christmas as Beckie's in London at uni and Louisa's in Sussex studying too. But apart from the London date we play 15th November in Salford at The Eagle Inn. If we get time we hope to manage a gig in Leeds and Nottingham before the new year too.

Any firmed up plans for rest of year?We release a new single on the 1st November called 'Sigh Away' which we recorded in Newcastle: it'll be our first release in 10 months! From then on we will be releasing a single every couple of months until Summer of next year when we can get into a studio and record an E.P.

La Bête Blooms play Power Lunches, Dalston, London on October 13.

La Bête Blooms are: Daniel Mawer - Vocals/Guitar; James Coggin - Drums; Jack Gallagher - Bass; Rebecca Hopkins - Vocals/Guitar; Louisa Robinson - Keyboards
