Two things stand out initially about electronic newcomers Glue Moon. Firstly, we are not overly keen on the name. Not just because there is a Glue Moon Records, but mainly because it does not strike an immediate cord of interest and leaves us feeling decidedly underwhelmed; the title of this debut offering from them, 'Stockholm Zone', would probably appeal more as a band moniker, especially given that Glue Moon on first evidence do not appear to be any type of lightweight band that the name might erroneously give an impression of.
Secondly, it would be nice to see what each of the three members of this Liverpudlian outfit actually look like, rather than the only publicity shot being that of a bunch of ... trees.
That aside, and taking the adage of not judging a book by its cover - or a band by their name, or on the look of their trees - alone on board, what Glue Moon have to offer as their opening salvo is not at all without merit.
Formed early last year and spending time honing their sound in the studio and by local live outings, they have now delivered the aforementioned 'Stockholm Zone' to mark their entrance; the time spent having obviously been well put to use. This is an ambitious work, coming in just shy of five and a half minutes, its hauntingly atmospheric lead-in creating suspense as to what it might open out into. What that transpires to be is over four minutes of brooding synths and swells of aching guitars layered around samples, and Will Hall's vocal and repeated dark epithet, "you say/ you don't wanna live forever."
Rating: Name apart, this is really quite something. They've taken a standard electronic format and glued it down with their own sticky seal. 8/10
