Track Of The Day :: Forrest Cokely - Problems

There is something sweepingly grand and stirring to the senses about this track from the album 'Peaces', released September 18 on Foof Records by Californian singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Forrest Cokely.

Who is Forrest Cokely? Good question. Asking ourselves that when we heard the first couple of tracks from this album, research tells us that he has been around for a few years now (lurking in the long-forgotten bowels of MySpace), though quite why he has remained largely unheard of is a mystery.

His voice and hypnotic melody, perfected here on the track 'Problems', should be someone by now reaping accolades. Each of the ten tracks contained on the album (plus a version of Leonard Cohen's 'Chelsea Hotel #2'), displays its own, almost unique, identity, wrapped around an impressive array of sonic flourishes.

'Peaces' was mixed by Frank Lenz (Richard Swift, Starflyer 59) and assisted by Eli Thompson (bassist in Jakob Dylan's Wallflowers). You can download the album for free by clicking here.

We think you probably should.

"Don't you know / everything's a dream / things aren't what they seem."
