Track Of The Day :: Boom Said Thunder - Summer Twin

Brooklyn-based fuzz rockers Boom Said Thunder release 'Summer Twin' last month, which is also available now as a free download.

Perhaps the most notable anomaly about the trio, formerly of Cambridge, Massachusetts, is their eschewing of guitars. (How many others can you think of, off the top of your head? Royal Blood is probably the most widely known.)  With Abby Bickel on vocals, John Magnifico, bass, and Will Thomas on drums, they, therefore, create quite a distinctive sound, as can be imagined.

For their new digital single release - and at just over five-and-a-half minutes, one of their longest - the boom in their name is apt on the bellowed opening note of 'Summer Twin'. While Bickel casts an ominous delivery on vocals, Magnifico's bass groove ripple adds to the song's compulsive force; rising through distortion on its unsettling lyric, "I grow old/you stay the same."
