Track Of The Day :: YipiOK - Tango
Johnny Levett and Kissy Smallwood are the two dudes behind YipiOK, the alt-pop duo from London whose debut 'Tango' is already creating a radio buzz, winning the approval of John Kennedy on XFM, and BBC Radio 6Music's Tom Robinson and Steve Lamacq.
Songwriter and musician Levett (previously vocalist with The Ramblings) and multi-instrumentalist Smallwood only came together in the latter half of last year to form YipiOK, played their first live show in January (at Camden's Dublin Castle), and with a handful of gigs since then, have seen their name spread by word-of-mouth.
The quirky and infectious 'Tango' is an immediately likeable track melding traditional belting guitar hooks, with electronic snakey synth sounds, insight vocals and tongue-in-cheek lyrics about doing a tango in a South American bar, a girl on a jet-ski and a guy who buys the singer a cocktail, "and I kissed her".
